For the 16th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, the U.S. Pavilion, commissioned by the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) and The University of Chicago (UChicago) on behalf of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, presents Dimensions of Citizenship. The exhibition challenges architects and designers to envision what it means to be a citizen today, as critical contemporary issues expand conventional notions of citizenship.

The U.S. Pavilion curators invited seven transdisciplinary teams to represent the United States at the Biennale Architettura 2018. The teams, which include architects, landscape architects, theorists, and artists, have each been asked to grapple with the potential meanings and architectural implications of citizenship at a different scale. What becomes clear in each immersive installation is the need for atchitecture to respond to and shape of citizenship at all scales, today and in the future.

Following the lighting concept by ARUP and the exhibition requirements by the curators for this Biennale edition, the elegant and subtle Yori Track are used for general and accent lighting for both wall and floor accents. Yori track mounts a 13W LED COB with CRI 90 with cross louver as accessory to limit glare considering the height of the track installation. For wall graphics and the long table ARUP specified Linea Luce Slim in the medium profile, 25W/m and 3000lm/m, with different colour temperatures and different versions, single module and continuous line. The single modules 4000K are used with adjustable wall joints to aim the fixture to the graphics; the continuous line 3000K have been attached to custom metal brackets creating a very thin and sophisticated solution. Linea Luce Slim in both applications is controlled by a DALI driver with a Bluetooth interface to dim down the linear profiles during the projections.
