The Al-Futtaim Motors Toyota Wave Showroom spans a huge 14,000 square metres in Abu Dhabi. It is currently the largest, most cutting-edge Toyota flagship store in the Middle East. Spread over five floors, the showroom can display over 80 new and used models, with more than 64 simultaneousworking bays, to accommodate up to 250 cars per day. This eye-catching building also offers multiple client spaces, with a gallery, café, an area reserved for car handover, a digital design studio, a customer-service centre and finally a children’s play area with electric cars and a 100 metre track.
The interior space was designed by the British firm Interior Architects Greenspace, design consultants specialising in creating legacy experience destinations. The building takes its name from the unique curved exterior design that recalls the movement of a wave, and is reflected along the entire length of each floor through the white crested fins that run from the front to the back of the structure.
Greenspace’s designers and Reggiani worked closely to create an energy-efficient lighting system which would reflect the wave structure. Combining creativity with the functionality of the spaces gave life to a unique look & feel in each area, developed to facilitate the customer’s journey through the structure. In the café, RGB LEDs make for a unique visiting and dining experience. Roll IOS projectors with barn doors, DALI dimmers and luminous fluxes of 1000 and 2000 lumen illuminate the main showroom, mounted within the structural ceiling elements that characterise the whole showroom. The luminaires can be controlled via an iPad using 99 different scenarios related to the many opportunities to visit and purchase by potential clients. In other areas of the imposing structure, the Linea Luce LED recessed solution is installed, used in a continuous line at the ground floor service area exit to create a stand-out ceiling effect and highlight the visit routes.
Greenspace CEO and founder Adrian Caddy said: “From the beginning we were challenged by the Al-Futtaim Motors team to create an experience that could leave its mark and offer a new world standard from the point of view of retail and the Toyota brand experience”.
